What this website is…

I am a criminal defense attorney based in Salt Lake City and I focus on drug crimes. I wrote this website to try and answer some of the most frequently asked questions I get about marijuana laws in Utah (they are a lot different than Nevada, or California, or Colorado). I designed it to be read on a smartphone, but you shouldn’t try to read it while you’re driving. That’s what your passenger is for.

What this website isn’t…

It’s not legal advice. It’s impossible to give good legal advice without knowing the details of a specific situation, the players involved, and the goals of the client.  This page is just a description of what the law is, and a list of some of the reasons someone who uses marijuana gets arrested in Utah, with a description of the ways it often goes down. Also, by saying what someone “can” do in a given situation, I don’t mean to tell them what they “should” do. I just want people in a confrontation with the police to know what their options are, and to make the most informed decision they can. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments.
